Tell plays

The Tell plays are as closely associated with the name Interlaken as the Jungfrau massif, the carriages and the traditional Grand Hotels. A unique spectacle! Friedrich Schiller’s drama about the freedom hero William Tell has been performed on the magnificent natural stage in the “Rugenwald zu Matten” since 1912. Over 170 actors – from the leading actors to the extras, all non-professionals – make up the large “Tellspiel family”. Horses, cows and goats also help to make the open-air theater an impressive experience time and time again. Thanks to a covered grandstand with seating for around 2,200 spectators, the matches can be played every year from June to September (Thursday and Saturday) whatever the weather. The performance lasts from 20:00 to approx. 22:30.
